Lake Panorama – Western Heights Waitakere

Directions To get to the lake take the north western highway out to Helensville, take the Lincoln rd off ramp (SH19) follow this all the way to the end (lots of traffic lights). Turn right at the end onto Swanson Rd (SH24), after around 400metres turn left at the lights onto Sturges rd. Follow this road straight over the first roundabout, at next roundabout (large palm tree in it) turn right onto Lake Panorama Drive. The lake is about 500metres down Lake Panorama Drive on your left.

Access – Parking is available.

Description-This is a beautiful lake which has been landscaped as part of a sub-division development, has recently been in the press following “controversial name change to Lake Xena as this was one of the locations for the filming of the series. Reports indicate it is approximately 5 – 6 feet deep.

Depending on the time of day you are here it is a good idea to avoid the landing area at the footbridge as this is a popular area for people to take there dogs for a swim and for duck feeding so can get a bit busy! (Though because of the constant feeding of the ducks this is a good swim!!!)

Facilities – No Toilets. Nearest shop on Sturges road

Methods – haven’t fished this water so cant comment on methods but imagine all usual tactics will score. Baits: well popular choices are maggot, bread, sweet corn, worm and all the other "normal" baits.

Fish – Tench, Perch, Rudd, Eels, Big Carp, possible catfish

Records – None available at this time.

Pictures-

To follow (if anyone has any decent pictures or further details on this venue please let me know)

lake panarama

This lake was electro-fished a few months ago, and they took quite a few fish out.

Yeah I heard the same but F&G mag said they only removed very few for study most were returned, never fished it so dont know what stocking levels are like, you fished it????

Just found the bit on "Reel Life"

" We received several complaints from coarse angling clubs about the Waikato University using their electric fishing boat to exterminate tench and perch from Lake Panarama. The University was on contract to the Waitakere City Council to do a presence/absence study of fish in lakes near Sturges Road. However the reports appear to based on hearsay as the University staff involved insist that all tench and perch were returned unharmed to the water after being measured. "

hi scouse,i sent kiwicarper the original info on this lake & i fish it on a regular basis.
Scousa2 is right they did have the electric boat in,however it was only for a survey, i have fished recently as have friends of mine.
The catches have been good & mixed, though as with other waters if they are not biting?.
So give it a go you could be midly surprised, tightlines stuart stevenson.
